Berlin Balboa Weekend is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable event experience for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the organizers.

The Less Quick Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of workshops or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately. Event staff can be found at any venue.

Event staff will be happy to help participants contact venue staff or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and your safety.

We expect participants to follow these rules at dance and workshop venues

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The people behind Berlin Balboa Weekend respect and celebrate that jazz dance is a black art form originating in Harlem, New York, and that the dance called Balboa has its origins within the underprivileged social sphere and communities of people of colour of a variety of cultural backgrounds such as Afro-American as well as of people of Jewish, Armenian, Meso- and South American and Philippine heritage on the west coast of the USA and particularly in Los Angeles in the 1920s and ‘30s. We thrive to be respectful guests in a culture that doesn't belong to us.
We aim to create a space for collective learning of the spirit and culture of the dance.
