The Big Five will play for us again on Friday at Säälchen, this time joined by the fantastic Nicolle Rochelle!

Inspired by the wild hot sounds of 1930s/1940s Harlem and Chicago jazz, The Big Five have established themselves as Berlin’s most authentic swing-era combo. Combining a driving rhythm section, a fiery horn-led frontline and dynamic song-arrangements, this international band makes a deep-dive into the lesser-known repertoire of the Swing Golden Age - as well as a strong emphasis on original compositions.

With a lineup that is unique for our homegrown swinging bands featuring electric guitar, vibraphone, two horns and a steaming rhythm section, ‘Maxwell and the Shamans’ is one of Berlin’s new up and coming groups that are bound to set you in a trance. They give an ecstatic twist to the classic repertoire, bending spacetime by transcending genres, while keeping it all about two things: rhythm & improvisation. Put on your shoes and free your minds!
